I’ve been on YouTube and I came across a video for what could be perhaps the worst Product Launch video I have ever come across – and I’ve seen a heck of a lot of them!
Microsoft are launching Windows 7, and they’ve jumped on the Product Launch bandwagon in their own Microsoft way.
I have no idea what the effect they were trying to create with this video. Their concept is the “Launch Party” around Windows 7. What the…..???
It’s not as if Microsoft are loved all over the world by their users like Apple are. They have a group of people all talking about how they do Launch Parties around their laptop and how they have their friends play around the the new features of Windows 7. Good lordie, that the heck were they smoking?
They talk about “playing with Windows 7 before the party” and all that sort of stuff. Hey, we have a life. You should think of getting one too!!!!
Anyway, here’s the video. Let me know what you think in the Comments….

Hey David,
I attended one of these pre-launch launch parties. We ended up burning the computer and the install cds. Then we took to the streets to continue our rampage. All of us shouting things that shouldn’t be repeated.
It was the worst product launch of all time. Typical microsoft fashion to take a great idea and twist it until it becomes totally unrecognizable.
Maybe this makes the case for the need to hire a real product launch manager.
did you notice the clock went backwards?
@jonathan
Yeah, in the last scene, the time goes from 5.20 to 5.08.
There’s an even funnier time warp at 44 seconds when the time jumps from 3.41 to 4.0 in just 2 seconds….. Amazing how Microsoft can do it!
They must have been having a lot of fun, since minutes were flying in seconds there…!
I am agog. It takes real effort to be this boring. I cringe to think what they must have paid their ad agency or whoever for this drivel.
@ Brad Petersen
I agree totally. I think they could have easily paid for everyone at PLM AND Jeff Walker to do that launch, and still have change left over for a huge party afterwards!
I’m sure the Ad Agencies are counting their blessings that there are companies out there who are willing to follow the crap they tell them to do…
I don’t know what you guys are complaining about – this is THE most rockin’ party I’ve ever seen!!!!
(Is there an emoticon for sacasm? If so please insert here.)
I think everyone is missing the point, this is an APPLE commercial. There’s no way this can be serious. It’s got to be a spoof to make fun of the pending launch.
Notice all the times they slip in that you “need the equipment to do that”, “be sure to set it up early – couple days before the party” (because you’ll need a few days to get it working).
Gees, for Marketing Gods, you really are slipping on the “All Knowing” thing.
Whoa!
Holy smokes…did you see all that food…cheeses, breads, fruit…drinks…looked like alot of fun without all that yapping going on!
They need an emoticon with the M7 logo…and a yawning GenX’er…
The big guy had it right when he said “Can you believe Microsoft put the Launch of Microsoft 7 in our hands…!”
This makes me really curious about what launch content ideas they threw out in favor of this concept. Think of it. This was the best of all the ideas they had. Sheesh.
Oy! this is atrocious…the fake laughing bugged me the most…
Yikes!!
This is not only bad – it’s almost unwatchable.
Time to buy Apple stock- I’m sure Bill Gates is – maybe that’s the real purpose and genius of the launch. (insert EXTREME sarcasm emoticon here)
Dan
Hey David, WOW! Only MS could do something that completely lame. I was waiting for the chubby dude from the Apple commercials to wander in on a bender. NOW, that would have been much more interesting.
My guess is that it’s the same production company that produces those Time-Life 70′s music infomercials.
They don’t get it.
switched to Apple last year ! would the product launch manager allow you to manager with all sorts of clients from small to large such as above ? or do the large clients go to the specialists?
Would you still need an online marketing manager , an SEO manager after you used a product launch manager? Or does this actually replace all the jargon?
Thanks
specialists I meant consultants such as the accentures or other IT consultants!
Thanks
@Paul
A Product Launch Manager, depending on their skills, would be able to maintain any SEO or other online marketing, if the product isn’t taken off the market.
With more product launches, the product is taken off the market to increase scarcity. It can be relaunched numerous times though. With products taken off the market, relaunches can be done anyway, increasing the revenue time and time again.

You are telling me this is NOT a spoof? Party activities? Start shorting Microsoft stocks
Omg, i have no words. really funny to see such launches. I couldn’t imagine that microsoft can do this. I think they need to hire Jeff Walker to teach those guys how to make a successful launch…
